Club members were saddened to learn of the death of Bill McConachie, one of the founders of the club and a former chairman for at least seventeen years before retiring from the club in 1991.
Bill, a former policeman, was a diligent and active chairman, aided by his wife Mary, who helped take the club from a fledgling to a rally enjoying attendances of over 20,000.
Growing up amongst steam traction engines in Tarland, he was a lifetime steam enthusiast, following in his father’s footsteps he inherited three engines, all of which remain in Aberdeenshire now owned by separate collectors.
Our condolences and thoughts are with Mary and his son and daughter at this sad time.
