RNLI Presentation

The Bon Accord Steam Engine Club were delighted to present a cheque for £423.50p to the RNLI.

Signing off the cheque is Sam Barrack (Left) Chairman of Aberdeen’s Bon Accord Steam Engine Club witnessed by Callum McLeod and Steven Brown both volunteer crew members aboard the Aberdeen based Royal National Lifeboat Institution boat “Bon Accord”.

The donation to the RNLI came about following the visit by Steam Enthusiasts from the National Traction Engine Trust from various parts of Britain to Aberdeen for the Trust’s AGM, in the autumn of 2015.

This is the first time Members have held their meetings so far north, they were treated to a busy 3 day itinerary over the weekend of 19th to 21st November included a visit to the Barrack Steam Museum at Kingswells near Aberdeen followed by a trip to Castle Fraser the home of the Bon Accord Steam Fair run by the Bon Accord Steam Engine Club.

The final day, Monday, included a dinner and raffle for both NTET members and Bon Accord Steam Club members that raised £423.50 which they are donating to the Aberdeen RNLI.

While at the Barracks Steam Museum near Kingswells Aberdeen the lifeboat men were given a unique opportunity to gain an understanding of how the Barrack family’s 103 yr. old Steam Traction Engine “Finella” pictured here works: a major contrast to handling the modern high powered Lifeboats.
